Community Disaster Prevention Experience Program
Learn from the daily efforts of the local disaster prevention community activities of the “Kakarigamashi Association for Disaster Prevention” and apply to your own community!
In the Saga Area of Kuroshio Town, there is a local dialect called “Kakarigamashi”. The word means “caring more than necessary” or “meddlesome”. Based on the idea that “Kakarigamashi” connections are necessary for disaster prevention, a group of volunteers in the Saga Hamacho Area of Kuroshio Town established the “Kakarigamashi Bousai (Disaster Prevention) Association”, meaning disaster prevention in which local residents help each other. This program will introduce the activities of this area’s volunteer group and provide an opportunity to exchange opinions with members who are actually engaged in various daily disaster prevention activities, thereby, contributing to disaster prevention efforts to implement in your own community. A visit to “Saga Area Tsunami Evacuation Tower”, the tallest in Japan is included.

Program Flow
- Visit to the Saga Area Tsunami Evacuation TowerBy climbing the Saga Area Tsunami Evacuation Tower, its structure and mechanism, the living quarter inside the tower, and the equipment prepared by the local residents will be introduced.
- Introduction of the Association of “Disaster prevention Kakarigamashi” efforts and exchange of opinionsThe “Disaster Prevention Kakarigamashi” will introduce their various daily disaster prevention activities, efforts in cooperation with local junior high schools, and their thoughts on the construction of the Tsunami Evacuation Tower to exchange opinions of disaster prevention efforts to be implemented in your community.
